COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This presentation is intended for employees who handle, package, or transfer hazardous materials as regulated under Title 49 Parts 171-180 Hazardous Materials Regulations of the Department of Transportation (DOT). It will cover the general awareness of the DOT requirements and provide employees with the knowledge of the methods for communicating the hazards of these materials, including how shipping papers, hazard classes and divisions, identification numbers, packing groups, labels, types of shipments, placards, and markings are used for shipping containers and packages. General safety measures including basic loading and unloading methods and handling procedures will be presented. Chemical compatibilities and proper packaging will be reviewed, along with general emergency response procedures and spill response in the case of a hazardous material release.
